"And suddenly you realize that what at first seemed to be a sacrifice is actually a major gain."
Lena Müller, ecologist & ORTOVOX athlete
Leave old routes behind and discover new routes. “More than a route” follows ecologist and top-climber Lena Müller on her ecopoint tour. She and her friend Judith cover 350 kilometers and 5100 vertical meters on their gravel bikes to climb two dream trad tours. By deciding not to travel by car, she has an incredible experience: “The time, the surroundings, the people, everything becomes more significant.”

“I’m faced with a dilemma, as are all of us who like spending time in the mountains. As a climate researcher, I know how the climate crisis is changing the Alps. However, as a climber I want to spend as much time as possible in the mountains. So what can I do? How can I change my behavior and make my sport more sustainable?”
“Climbing by fair means. What would it be like if this mentality were to spread?”
Lena Müller (29) is currently studying for a doctorate in ecology and is one of Germany’s leading female climbers. Becoming aware of her own negative impact allowed her to question her normal routine and look for new approaches. Today, her goal is to climb routes by fair means: Traveling to the rock face on foot, by bike or by public transport – a vision that she has dubbed ECOPOINT.
Transparency is important to us: For technical production reasons, small parts of the route had to be covered by car. All unavoidable emissions caused by the production of this film have been offset.
