All-rounder for alpinists
Robust and multifunctional backpack with high wearing comfort for high altitude and ski touring
Highlights
- Robust and durable
- Full contact back with Swisswool ensures high wearing comfort
- Particularly sustainable thanks to recycled materials
No peak too high, no path too far: the PEAK 45 is a multifunctional high altitude backpack for demanding alpinists who are looking for a robust, versatile and comfortable backpack for all occasions.
The wide, padded shoulder and hip straps and the close-fitting, full-contact back reinforced with metal struts of the unique Swisswool 3D BACK SYSTEMS, which distributes the load evenly on the back, ensure high wearing comfort. For optimal climate regulation on the contact surfaces, the back, shoulder and hip straps are lined with a Swisswool wool fleece that reliably absorbs water vapor and dries quickly. The PEAK 45 also scores with a separate safety compartment, numerous attachment options for rope, ice axe, helmet, skis, snowboard and poles, as well as a side crampon compartment. In the spirit of sustainability, the two main outer materials are made of 100% and 50% recycled polyamide, which makes the backpack extremely robust, resistant and durable.
Thus, the PEAK 45 brings great freedom to the mountain and is a reliable companion for any high altitude or ski tour.
Caution! Keep the polybag used for product packaging away from babies and children. This bag is not a toy! Choking hazard!

I've made the Peak 45L my go-to pack for winter Northeastern ice climbing and Alps hut-to-hut touring for several years now. The redesigned Peak 45L changes and improves upon several features that made the Peak 45L my favorite large-volume pack. One problem with the previous version of the Peak 45L was that the tool/ax carrying system didn't work particularly well for ergonomic ice tools, using a more traditional "tool pick in a pocket" sleeve and a velcro attachment system for the shaft, which didn't work well for the angles of ergonomic tools. The new Peak 45L eliminates this problem with a more flexible and functional combination of bungee cords for the picks and shafts. Another solution the Orotovox designers improved upon was the mesh helmet holder. The previous version had a zippered pouch for this holder, which was convenient, but because that zipper was at the bottom of the pack, it saw a lot of wear-and-tear and would eventually break. The new Peak 45L has eliminated the pouch, while keeping the mesh holder. If you haven't used a mesh helmet holder yet, believe me, it is so excellent--essentially adding about 12L of volume inside your pack and making your helmet quickly accessible as you approach a crag or get ready for the downhill. Another thing I like about this pack is it's durability. While there are definitely lighter packs out there, with the Peak 45L Ortovox has produced a light pack that also pays attention to durability and environmental sustainability, with a durable exterior that is made from polyamides that are made of 50-100% recycled materials. If you're looking for a stripped down, ultra-light pack for an epic alpine first ascent or a ski mountaineering FKT, the Peak 45L is not your pack. But--let's face it--that's not what most of us are doing everyday. Most days, I'm hiking into a day of ice climbing and leaving my primary pack at the base, so I appreciate the organizational options and durability of a pack like the Peak 45L. Or, when I'm doing a multi-day ski tour, I appreciate the smart design for storing axes, avi gear, quick-access items, etc. Since I'm an Ortovox Athlete, you've got a right to be a bit circumspect about my review, but I can tell you that this is a piece that I truly believe in and a product that I use daily, with confidence and with enjoyment, in the field, whether ice climbing, doing alpine overnights, or doing hut-to-hut ski tours. If you're looking for a great pack with smart organizational features that you will use for many years to come I certainly recommend the Peak 45L as an excellent "one pack quiver" option.

This is the best backpack I have ever used! Very practical, simple and well studied in every detail.
