For the MERINO NAKED SHEEP line we’ve concentrated on the essentials: Low weight, optimum protection and ample comfort. This hardshell jacket is lightweight and technically sophisticated yet robust and comfortable.The DERMIZAX® NX membrane from Toray – the most high-performance membrane that we use – ensures the jacket is windproof, waterproof and breathable. The hardshell jacket has a 2-way zipper for an optimal fit – even with a climbing harness. A 2-way zipper in the underarm area provides ventilation during sweat-inducing climbs. Soft, merino-mix inserts around the chin and the 2-way adjustable, helmet-compatible storm hood offer comfort and protection in rain, snow or icy conditions.

Die Jacke ist super zu tragen und auch für Fahrradfahren und Wandern sehr gut geeignet. An milden Tagen habe ich sie auch gerne zum Skifahren genutzt. Leider habe ich in Sachen Langlebigkeit nicht die besten Erfahrungen gemacht. Die ersten zwei Jahre war sie wasserdicht, was dann allerdings sehr rapide nach lies. Die Imprägnierung lies sich nur noch sehr schwach reaktivieren und nach etwa dreieinhalb Jahren und einem regnerischen Urlaub in Island habe ich sie in ihrer Funktion als Regenjacke aufgegeben. Nach nun ungefähr fünf Jahren sind auch die ersten Nähte aufgerissen und die Jacke werde ich nun wohl oder übel wegwerfen müssen. Den Kauf habe ich bis heute nicht bereut, hätte mir für den Kaufpreis von damalig 450€ eine längere Lebensdauer erhofft.

The 3L Ortler effectively rides the line between performance in both the alpinism and ski mountaineering categories. If you’re looking for one jacket to cover both bases, I want to make a shout out to its value and viability as a one-stop-shop jacket for both your climbing and skiing pursuits. {‘m an Ortovox Ambassador and I use this thing throughout my winter season guiding ice in the Northeast and on into the spring season in The Alps. It doesn’t have needless frills, so it packs away smoothly. The chest pocket provides quick access for things like phones and snacks, and it’s comfortable when wearing a ski or climbing harness, as there are no low zippers. The same cuffs that cinch down to keep out the powder do the trick for keeping out water while ice climbing on sunny days at Lake Willoughby. And the hood works well for helmets, no matter if you’re wearing boards or swinging tools. I brought this jacket to The French Alps last March for several weeks of combined skiing and climbing and appreciated the functionality in both realms. For the skier who likes to climb or the climber who likes to ski, both these jackets make for a good fit. And, on the note of fit, I’m 5’10”, 155lbs and fine that the Medium jackets provide an athletic fit, while still allowing layers underneath. Being an Ortovox Ambassador, you have a right to take my review with a grain of salt, but I am being genuine about everything I’ve said about this favorite item of mine.

Die Jacke hat etwa 4 Jahre gut gehalten und ich war in dieser Zeit auch sehr zufrieden damit. Leider haben sich danach die Lagen voneinander getrennt, sodass die Jacke nicht mehr vor Regen schützt. Damit ist sie für mich zum Wandern nutzlos. Für den Preis hätte ich mir erwartet, dass die Jacke deutlich länger hält.

I love the Ortler jacket and pant. I have had them for a few seasons now, and it has been bomb proof. I have used it touring in the back country, doing laps up the resort, and various hut trips. The Ortler is fantastic at all of these. I highly recommend both the jacket and pant.
